Posco Chemical goes all out to secure talent in battery materials. The firm decided to work with Hanyang University this time, following collaborations with POSTECH and UNIST.

Posco Chemical signed an MOU with Hanyang University for the e-Battery Track at the university's new main building on the 12th. The attendees at the signing ceremony included Posco Chemical president Min Kyung-zoon and Hanyang University president Kim Woo-seung.

The firm plans to start the e-Battery Track, a degree course tailored to produce experts in battery materials, at Hanyang University from the second half of this year. They will select and educate talented students through their master and doctoral programs and then hire them for their entities, including Posco Chemical R&D Center, once they graduate. Students will be given opportunities to take tours of the firm's business sites and conduct joint research projects. The firm will also provide support with tuitions and scholarships

Since 2019, when the firm and the university’s battery center established an industry-academy collaboration system, they have been engaging in various joint research projects, with the firm also having worked closely with the university to reinforce research capabilities, for example, appointing professor Sun Yang-gook, who is a renowned expert in battery materials, from the Department of Energy Engineering as the chair professor of the program.

Posco Chemical has been active in working with universities in Korea to produce technical experts in battery materials and to raise its business competitiveness, while at the same time contributing to the development of the industrial ecosystem. This is the third MOU the firm has made for producing talent this year, following one with POSTECH in March, and one with UNIST in April.

“This MOU with Hanyang University, a leader in basic battery material technology, will bring us an opportunity to reinforce our competitiveness,” said Posco Chemical president Min Kyung-zoon. “We will actively provide support to ensure that talented students are able to demonstrate their competence in research and grow as leaders in the field of K-batteries.”

Hanyang University president Kim Woo-seung said, “We’ve installed a department related to batteries, which are recognized as being a core component of the economy and industry in the 21st century. With Posco Chemical, we are determined to produce the best talent in battery materials for our battery industry to thrive.”
