POSCO Chemical holds “Green Dream Environment School” events to give classes on eco-friendly electric vehicles and batteries

- POSCO Chemical employees participated in the events as instructors to teach about the eco-friendliness of electric vehicles and the characteristics of their batteries in a manner tailored to the children.
- The Green Dream Environment School is POSCO Chemical's representative ongoing social contribution activity that was started in 2013 and has since attracted a total of 1,200 participants.
Drawing on its capabilities as a battery materials company, POSCO Chemical has carried out a social contribution activity aimed at environmental education for children.
From January 24 to February 11, POSCO Chemical held a series of “Green Dream Environment School” events for 350 children at local children's centers in the cities of Pohang, Gwangyang, Gumi, and Sejong.
The Green Dream Environment School events took place in the form of hands-on classes through which children learned how to make the models of electric vehicles and wireless charging stations under the guidance of POSCO Chemical employees who served as event-day instructors. In an easy-to-understand manner tailored to the children, the instructors taught them about the eco-friendliness of electric vehicles, which do not emit carbon dioxide, as well as about the characteristics of rechargeable batteries that can be used multiple times.
In conjunction with the international relief and development NGO “Korea Food for the Hungry International,” POSCO Chemical has been running the Green Dream Environment School for 9 years since 2013 to help local children become aware of the importance of the environment and put that awareness into practice, providing such education to a total of 1,200 children so far.
“Making the models of electric vehicles and wireless charging stations with the explanations helped me to understand it more easily because science is normally difficult for me. When I moved the car around that I built on my own, it was really fun and amazing,” said Jiwon Joo, a student participant in the latest iteration of the Blue Dream Environmental School.
POSCO Chemical's Corporate Citizenship Bureau director Taehee Lee said, "We will continue to provide various programs that can help children understand the importance of energy and the environment."
POSCO Chemical is currently engaged in a variety of social contribution activities, including “Co-prosperity Training for Cultivation of Refractory Lining Professionals,” which helps young people find employment and become self-reliant, the “Foundation Seed Passbook” program, which provides supportive funding to help young people gain more independence, and the “Food Charging Station” program, which provides daily necessities to the underprivileged, free of charge.
