POSCO Chemical will work with POSTECH to train talent in battery materials.

POSCO Chemical made an agreement on e-Battery Track with POSTECH at the main POSTECH building on March 22. The signing ceremony was held in the presence of several key figures, including POSCO Chemical CEO Min Kyung-zoon, POSTECH president Kim Moo-hwan, and dean of the Graduate Institute of Ferrous & Energy Materials Technology (GIFT) Kim Seong-joon.

POSCO Chemical will run a custom course at POSTECH starting in the second half of 2022 to train experts in battery materials. Working with GIFT, the company will select talent under an advanced degree's course for e-Battery track and hire them for POSCO Chemical operations, including labs, once they complete the course.

Along with basic research on battery materials, students will also engage in field-oriented research, visiting the sites of POSCO Chemical and participating in field tasks. In addition, they will attend liberal education and leadership programs. POSCO Chemical will provide them with a full scholarship.

POSCO Chemical had worked with POSTECH previously in 2019 to open an industry-university research center, and has maintained a collaboration system with major universities, including Hanyang University for a battery center. The company plans to expand this type of talent training collaboration to more universities in order to solidify its technical competency in next-gen battery materials.

“Making this agreement with POSTECH, which also plays an important role in expanding our nation’s technological infrastructure, will contribute to securing the future competency of not only POSCO Chemical but also K-battery as a whole,” said POSCO Chemical CEO Min Kyung-zoon. “We will support the selected students and help them grow as leaders in the battery materials industry and perform globally through POSCO Chemical.”

POSTECH president Kim Moo-hwan said, “This partnership with POSCO Chemical, which leads the global battery industry, will enable us to contribute to securing the competitiveness of the materials industry as the foundation of batteries. We will do our best to train the selected students and see them become major talents in the field.”
