POSCO Chemical and UNIST Signs a Training Contract to Develop the Best Talent for the Battery Industry

- POSCO Chemical and UNIST concluded the e-Battery Track Course Agreement on April 26 aimed at attracting the top talent from master’s and doctoral programs.

POSCO Chemical and Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) has set out to train young aspiring talent in the field of battery materials.

On April 26, POSCO Chemical and UNIST signed an e-Battery Track Course Agreement at UNIST. The signing ceremony was attended by POSCO Chemical CEO Min Kyung-zoon and UNIST Chancellor Lee Yong-hoon.

Starting in the second half of this year, POSCO Chemical and UNIST will offer the e-Battery Track Course designed to train future ready talent for battery materials industry. POSCO Chemical will select the top talent enrolled in the master's and doctoral programs from the Department of Energy and Chemical Engineering at UNIST and hire them as research staff members at POSCO Chemical R&D Centers once they graduate from programs customized to the battery materials industry.

Students chosen in the process will get the opportunity to visit POSCO Chemical offices and production sites, conduct field research and carry out projects on battery materials, all while taking liberal arts courses. Students will receive a full scholarship that covers their tuition as well as possible other scholarships funded by POSCO Chemical.

POSCO Chemical CEO Min Kyung-zoon said, “We will contribute to securing competitiveness in K-batteries in partnership with UNIST, with its distinguished record of research, in a time of dramatic growth in battery materials market due to the soaring demand for EVs. We will provide enthusiastic support to the selected students to ensure that they become essential talent in the battery industry in the future.”

UNIST Chancellor Lee Yong-hoon said, “It is becoming more important to secure technological competitiveness to lead the battery industry. UNIST will make its best efforts to train the students enrolled in the program to see them become big names in the battery sector.”

POSCO Chemical has also signed another e-Battery Track Course Agreement with Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH). The company plans to collaborate with more schools, prominent universities in Korea in particular, to nurture more students and further secure technological competitiveness in next-generation battery materials.
