- On the 20th, POSCO Chemical's name change to POSCO FUTURE M was approved at a general meeting of shareholders, strengthening the company's determination to forge ahead towards a new future.
- Going beyond POSCO Group’s management philosophy of “Contributing to the Nation’s Economy through Steelmaking,” the company pledged to do so through secondary battery materials and materials which are most needed for the future.
- President Kim Jun-hyung has been newly appointed as CEO, with head of the Planning and Support Division Yoon Deok-il newly appointed as an inside director.
- Kim Jin-cheol, Head of the Safety Environment Center has been reappointed as an inside director. Also, Kim Won-yong and Lee Ung-beom have been reappointed as incumbent outside directors.

POSCO Chemical will change its name to POSCO FUTURE M in a bid to reestablish itself as an eco-friendly future materials company.

On the 20th, at a shareholders' meeting held at its Pohang headquarters, POSCO Chemical made the final decision to change the company’s name to POSCO FUTURE M and held a proclamation ceremony for the name change with President Kim Jun-hyung and other executives and employees in attendance.

The new name “POSCO FUTURE M” conveys the company's determination to Manage their leading role in creating a prosperous FUTURE by leading Movements around the world through competitive Materials.

The idea is that while POSCO Group, which has so far supported the development of South Korea’s national economy through its steel business, is pushing for a great transformation into a foremost eco-friendly future materials company with the launch of a holding company last year, POSCO FUTURE M, as a key operating company, will take the lead in bringing new changes for the group's future.


In addition, just as POSCO Group has contributed to the development of South Korea’s national economy with the motto of “Contributing to the Nation's Economy through Steelmaking,” the new name POSCO FUTURE M also implies the company's commitment to accomplishing the grand mission of “contributing to the development of South Korea’s economy through materials” by taking the lead in supplying battery materials as well as other materials of the best quality that the country needs for its future.

POSCO FUTURE M is an operating company that is dedicated to the secondary battery materials business among POSCO Group's seven core businesses, with the company leading the group's next generation of growth, next only to its steel business. With the field of secondary battery materials having recently been selected by the South Korean government as one of the key business fields that will lead the country's future along with the fields of future cars, robots, and semi-conductors, POSCO FUTURE M's role within the group is expected to further increase.

In his commemorative speech at the name change proclamation ceremony held on the day, POSCO FUTURE M president Kim Jun-hyung said, “Over the past half century, our company has been leading the development of South Korea’s national economy through the provision of various materials as a reliable partner of the steel industry. We have also changed our corporate name from time to time to reflect the spirit of the times and our calling. To achieve our vision of becoming a world-leading company in chemicals and energy materials and accomplish our mission of successfully building a new future for a 100-year-old company, let’s start by giving ourselves a new name.”

On the same day at a general meeting of shareholders and the board of directors, POSCO FUTURE M also appointed inside and outside directors who will lead the company with a renewed spirit. President Kim Jun-hyeong was newly appointed as CEO, and head of the Planning and Support Division Yoon Deok-il was newly appointed as inside director, while head of the Safety and Environment Center Kim Jin-cheol and head of POSCO's Eco-friendly Future Materials Team Byeong-ok Yoo were reelected as outside director and non-executive director, respectively. On the same day, Kim Won-yong and Lee Ung-beom were reappointed as incumbent outside directors.
